PREVIEW OF GAMES FOR
SATURDAY 30 AUGUST
Early Leaders of the league, Waddington
United will be looking to make it two wins in two as they visit Harby
this weekend.
Also
victors in their opening game of the season, champions Plough
Skellingthorpe, are on the road again as they visit FC Rustons United,
who lost their opener at Heckington last week. Last season Rustons
suffered an 8-1 home defeat against Plough but beat the villagers on
their own ground.
A
third side seeking their second win of the season are AFC Victory who
take on new comers BBH, who suffered the heaviest defeat in the opening
games last week, going down 5-1 to Waddington.
Ivy
Tavern CSA open their season with the visit of Market Rasen Town who
went down by the only game of the game at AFC Victory. In the
corresponding game from last season Rasen suffered their heaviest
defeat, being beaten 9-0. They made amends in the home game though, with
a 1-1 draw.
Two
sides opening their season are Metheringham and Horncastle Town with
both sides having won on their opponents grounds last season.
Also
opening their campaign are RMSC Athletic who play a local derby against
Ruston Sports Reserves who lost to the champions Plough Skellingthorpe
last week. RMSC, who finished fifth last season completed a league
double over their rivals last season.

results from 23/8/08
The new season got
underway with victories for highfliers of last year as champions Plough
Skellingthorpe, AFC Victory and Heckington United all posting their
intentions. The biggest win though was by new boys Waddington United who
won at fellow new boys BBH, by 5-1. This sees them the first side to
head the table in 2008-09 (albeit on goal difference) Waddington's
goals came from Ramsden, Poucher, Freeman, Anderson and a.n.other while
BBH's sole goal was from Hulse. Champions Plough won 2-0 at Ruston
Sports Reserves with their goals coming from a debut goal by Mehta and
one from Szendrey. Heckington United also won 2-0 in their re-arranged
game against FC Rustons United (after both sides original games were
called off). Old regulars were on the score sheet for them with Michael
Musson and Adi Collin netting. Finally AFC Victory got off to a winning
start with the only goal of the game from Simmonds against Market Rasen
Town.

This weekend five games take place with champions
Plough FC Skellingthorpe opening the defence of the title at Ruston
Sports Reserves who were one of only two sides who managed to beat them
last season, winning 3-2 in this corresponding fixture.
AFC Victory who finished third open their account with a home game
against Market Rasen Town. Rasen will have at least one objective in
this game and that is to score as the two league fixtures last season
ended 6-0 and 4-0 to Victory. Heckington United start with the visit of
Horncastle Town. In their two games of last season, both teams won 1-0
on their opponents grounds. The two new teams to the league made their
debut with a game against each other. BBH have home advantage as they
take on neighbours Waddington United. Finally Harby, who resigned from
the league and then re-joined begin the campaign with a home game
against FC Rustons United who they failed to meet last season on both
occasions due to player shortage. Lets hope things prove better for the
Notts side this season.

SATURDAY 5th JULY 2008
The League fixture
Secretary advises that once the David Cooper and Amateur Cup draws have
been made the fixtures will be published. This should be around 14 July
so your patience is appreciated.
WEDNESDAY 18th JUNE
The Annual General
Meeting was held on Tuesday 17th June at Moorlands Railway Sports and
Social Club.
Derrick Richardson made his 33rd consecutive report as Secretary, an
achievement in any organsation.
As mentioned AFC Maze had
withdrawn but Harby FC had asked to be re-instated (as a new committee
had been formed) and two new clubs made application, namely Waddington
United and BBH (who were last in league in 2001-2002 season). These
three sides were all welcomed into the League taking the membership up
to 15 teams for the new season. The season will commence on
Saturday 23rd August 2008 ended on Saturday 2nd May 2009. Fixture
Secretary James Stanley is hopeful of getting the new fixtures out by
the end of the month. This will include cup competition with the
exception of the Village Trophy which has put out an invitation to other
clubs with a closing date of 31st July. At present there are now
eight sides in the competition on the arrival of Waddington Utd and BBH
in the League.
Awards were made at the
commencement of the meeting as follows
Charles Hammond Memorial
Trophy for top scorer in the League - Michael Musson (Heckington United)
- 27 goals
Matt Brewitt Merit Award
for the outstanding secretary of season - Tom Howden (Plough FC
Skellingthorpe)
H.P. Gibson Trophy for the
best disciplined Club - Horncastle Town (for the fourth occasion in the
last five seasons)

LINCOLN & DISTRICT
VILLAGE TROPHY COMPETITION
The League is looking to
increase numbers in its oldest competition, the Lincoln & District
Village Trophy. The competition has been running since 1906 but over
recent years entries have fallen dramatically due to an absence of
football clubs in local villages. In the light of this the League invite
any village side within a 30 mile radius of the Lincoln Stonebow to
enter. League Secretary Derrick Richardson would welcome a call
from any interested clubs. The closing date is the 31st July 2008.
Entries can either be in writing to 12 Buttery Close, Lincoln, LN6 8SL
or by phone on 01522 822623.

APPEAL FROM HARBY FC
Most people, by now, will
know that Harby have withdrawn from the League. This is after having
been members for over 60 years. The last few years have been hard work
for the dedicated committee who have worked tirelessly trying to keep
the side afloat but getting players to turn out has eventually become to
difficult a task which can be seen by the fact they failed to fulfil at
least five fixtures during the season. This has cost them money on each
occasion and as the season came to a close a decisive decision had
to be made (as per League rule) as to whether they could continue for
another season. In the end (with much regret) the decision was made to
"pull the plug" The committee have left a proviso with the League
that, should anyone come forward wishing to run a side out of Harby,
they would not stand in their way. It is a know fact there are still
several players who wish to continue playing. All the kit and
equipment, held by the "old Club" is still available and the facilities
at Harby (especially their new Pavilion etc) is second to none. Posters
have been displayed in neighbour village asking for volunteers to run
the side, so if anyone wants to see Harby "saved from the ashes" you are
more than welcome to attend their AGM on Thursday 22nd May at 7.00 pm in
their Pavilion.

This week-end saw the last two cup
finals decided, both played at Sincil Bank, thanks to the generosity of
Lincoln City FC. On a glorious afternoon Plough Skellingthorpe lifted
the Village Trophy for only the second occasion in their history, the
last time being back in the 1949-50 season. This saw Plough complete a
league double while opponents Heckington United ended a second season
without any silverware. In the second final, the Horace Franklin Cup,
Metheringham overcame Cherry Knights.
One league games also took place with RMSC closing the season with a
third win in a row as they beat Horncastle Town. In mid week League
runners-up Ivy Tavern CSA ended their season with a defeat at Heckington
United.
Plough FC Skellingthorpe, already League champions, went into the
Village Trophy final as favourites and they proved value for money
beating Heckington United 2-0 in front of a large crowd. Giant central
defender Simon Oborne got one of the Plough goals while Johnny Bell put
himself in contention for the Charles Hammond Leading Scorers Award as
he netted the other. He now has 25 goals, just two less than
Heckington’s Michael Musson. Heckington’s veteran keeper Neil Terry
played for much of the second half of the game with a broken jaw,
incurred in a collision. He underwent an operation on Sunday to put two
plates in his jaw and our good wishes go out to him.
In the second final the Horace Franklin Cup Metheringham took a 2-0 half
time lead against Cherry Knights with two goals from Jon Miller. The
second half was goalless until late in the game when Matt Purbrick made
the game safe for Meg before skipper Guy Goodwin added a fourth in
injury time.
In the only league game RMSC ensured fifth place as they completed a
league double over Horncastle Town. On target for RMSC were James Corby
and Gavin Mackie.
In the only mid week game Heckington played their penultimate league
match of the season against arch rivals Ivy Tavern, winning 2-0. This
ensured fourth place for Heckington as Michael Musson grabbed his 27th
goal of the season to move top of the Leading Scorers table. The other
goal came from Jason Sedlan.
Next week-end is the final week of the season with just four games left
to be played. These being FC Rustons .v. Market Rasen Town
Fulbeck United v Metheringham
Heckington Utd v Horncastle Town
Plough FC Skellingthorpe v AFC victory
In the final game the players of Plough Skellingthorpe will be presented
with the League Champions Trophy

Heckington
United reaped revenge on runners-up Ivy Tavern with a 2-0 win last
night. Goals for Heckington came from Jason Sedlan and Michael Musson
with his 27th of the season. This sees him move ahead of Ivy's Billy
Munro. Ivy have now concluded their games so Musson's only genuine rival
for the Leading Scorers Trophy is Johnny Bell (Plough) who has 24 goals
with two games to play.

MONDAY 21st APRIL 2008
This week-end, the penultimate
week-end of what has seemed a long season, sees the final two cup
competitions decided. Thanks go out to Lincoln City Football Club for
allowing these two finals to be staged on the Sincil Bank ground, which
for many players will be a memorable occasion. The two finals in
question are the Hoare and Main sponsored Village Trophy and the Horace
Franklin Cup. The Village Trophy final takes place at 6.00 pm and brings
together in the final, for the first ever occasion in the 103 year
history of this prestigious village cup, Heckington United and Plough FC
Skellingthorpe. Both sides were losing finalist on their last occasion
in this final with Heckington, surprising losers to Cherry Knights in a
penalty shoot-out after a 0-0 draw after extra time, last season and
Plough losing to Metheringham 1-0 the year before. This is the last
occasion Heckington United have of picking up any silverware this
season, while Plough FC Skellingthorpe are to be presented with League
Champions trophy in their final league game next week-end. With both
sides having proven goal-scorers in their ranks in Michael Musson for
Heckington and Johnny Bell and Shane Beasley for Plough this could prove
to be one of the best Village Trophy finals for some years. Before this
game the final of the Horace Franklin Cup will take place at 2.00 pm.
This final is for the two sides who came through the semi final ties
involving sides in the bottom four of the table at the end of March and
this season sees Metheringham take on Cherry Knights. These two sides
were due to play in a league game on this date so the cup final will
also double as their league match. In their only other meeting of the
season Metheringham won 1-0 in a game which saw them reduced to nine men
and then hang on to their first half goal for much of the second half of
the game.
Also on Saturday there is one league game taking place, between RMSC
Athletic and Horncastle Town . RMSC are playing their final game and are
assured of fifth position while Horncastle, who have not played for
nearly a month, are playing their penultimate game and they are seventh
but could finish sixth if results go their way. The corresponding
meeting between these two sides saw RMSC win 1-0 with a goal from their
leading striker Danny Hicks.
In mid week, just two days before their cup final Heckington United play
their penultimate league game of the season when hosting old adversaries
and league runners-up Ivy Tavern. Just over a month ago this game looked
as if it could be a title decider but now it has little meaning other
than bragging points. The sides have met twice this season already, with
Ivy winning the corresponding league game 3-1 while Heckington won 2-1
at home in a David Cooper cup tie. The game does however have an
important issue to be decided as both sides have in their ranks the
leading striker in the League this season. Michael Musson (Heckington)
and Bill Munro (Ivy Tavern) are both on 26 goals. Munro has just this
game to take the Charlie Hammond Memorial Trophy out-right while Musson
has this game and one further match against Horncastle Town, next week.
Musson finish runners-up for this trophy last season so he will very
much be looking to go one better this season but Munro might have
different ideas

IVY TAVERN SECURE
RUNNERS-UP PLACE
Ivy Tavern CSA avenged an early
season defeat against FC Rustons United to ensure they finish League
runners-up. AFC Victory retained their unbeaten away record and secured
third place as they pick up their eighth league double of the season
while Heckington United have to settle for fourth as they lose at RMSC
Athletic. Market Rasen Town also failed to raise a side to play Fulbeck
United.
For Ivy Tavern CSA, who were
playing their penultimate match, they needed to win to ensure they take
the runners-up spot and although opponents FC Rustons United showed some
resistance they eventually ran out 4-2 victors. Ivy's scorers were Billy
Munro (2) (taking his season's tally to 26 and bring him level top
scorer in the League with Heckington's Michael Musson), one from Rick
Robinson (his 19th of the season) and a first for the club from Sam
Almond. Ruston's goals came from James Parkinson (his 14th of the
season) and a.n. other. AFC Victory who two days previously
retained the Amateur Cup with a 6-0 thumping of champions Plough FC
Skellingthorpe, secured third place as they picked up their eighth
league double of the season with a 5-0 win over second to bottom side
AFC Maze. They are also the only unbeaten side away from home, which is
an excellent record. On target for them was Terry McDougall with two
goals (taking his season's tally to 14), Mark Wilkinson and Danny
Taylor. In the only other game played Heckington United saw any
chance of finishing runners -up vanish as they lost by the only goal of
the game at RMSC Athletic. Heckington will now have to settle for fourth
place, while RMSC will finish fifth, thanks to James Corby's goal.

Congratulations
to AFC Victory on repeating their feat of last season in
doing a Cup Double. On Thursday night they thumped the

David Cooper Cup when they beat Heckington United 2-1.

WEDNESDAY 16th APRIL 2008
DESPITE THE TITLE
HAVING BEEN WON THERE IS STILL A BATTLE ON FOR THE RUNNERS-UP SPOT
Just three weeks and eleven games
remain in what has been an enthralling season in the WJ Harrison
Printers Lincoln League. Having secured the league title in mid-week
Plough FC Skellingthorpe sit this week-end out before they receive the
League Trophy in their final home game on 3 May against AFC Victory. Ivy
Tavern CSA, who commiseration go out to, as they once again fell short
at the last hurdle, play their penultimate match of the season with a
trip to FC Rustons United. Silly as it may seem, they need at least one
win from their final two games now, to ensure they finish second, should
either AFC Victory or Heckington United win all of their remaining
games. AFC Victory should see the first of those points picked up as
they visit second to bottom side AFC Maze while Heckington too have an
away trip as they visit fifth placed RMSC Athletic.
The remaining games for these three sides
see Ivy Tavern CSA go head to head with Heckington United while the
village side also see Horncastle Town as visitors. AFC Victory too, do
not have an easy finish, as they (as stated) visit champions Plough
Skellingthorpe in their last game. So, although the title is decided,
there is still some pride to be played for.
Ivy Tavern CSA have been without a game
for two weeks now but visit FC Rustons United looking to avenge one of
only two home defeats they have suffered all season. FC Rustons beat
them by the odd goal in seven in Ivy’s opening game of the season. FC
Rustons would like to close the season on a high as they go into their
last two game with this match and a final home match against Market
Rasen Town. They need at least one win from these two games to virtually
be ensured of a top six finish but could find the Ivy with other
thoughts in this meeting. Third placed AFC Victory will again play a
league game just two games after featuring in a cup final, having played
Plough Skellingthorpe in the Amateur Cup final on Thursday evening. For
AFC Maze it is their final match of the season and victory could see
them move out of the bottom two but to do this they will have to win for
the first time in ten games. The Vic are also looking to secure a league
double having won the previous encounter 3-1 back in September. Finally
Heckington United meet RMSC Athletic. After a promising start to the
season for RMSC when they lost only one of their opening seven games and
sitting at the top of the table, it has fizzled out into a disappointing
finish with just one win in their last four games. They are however
assured of a top five position, one place higher that last season. The
previous meeting of these two sides was at the start of the season and
saw Heckington win by the odd goal in seven. With two of the League’s
leading scorers in their ranks, namely Michael Musson for Heckington and
Danny Hicks for RMSC one could see another high scoring game.

PLOUGH SKELLINGTHORPE
ARE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!
Congratulations to
Plough FC Skellingthorpe on become Lincoln League Champions for the
first time in possibly 50 years. The last time they won the league is
not really known but if someone can tell us it would be appreciated.
They achieved their feat with one game to spare as they won their
twelfth consecutive league game, securing a ninth league double of the
season over bottom side Harby 9-0. For Harby it was their final game in
the league as they call it a day after a troubled season gallantly
trying to get a side ever week. Also winning by a convincing
margin were Heckington United, who beat Metheringham 5-0 as they seek to
overhaul AFC Victory for the right to finish third in the table.
On target for Plough were Jon Bell (3), James Coffey (3), Gareth Baxter
(2) and Paul Burgess. Heckington's goals came from Michael Musson
(2), Alan Booth (2) and Luke Hollingworth.
With Jonny Bell
picking up a hat-trick he has now moved into contention for the Charlie
Hammond Leading Goalscorer's Trophy as he now has 24 goals, the same as
Billy Munro of Ivy Tavern CSA. They are both now two goals behind
Heckington's Michael Musson whose two goals last night put him on 26 for
the season. Two other strikers are not out of the chase either as they
both have 20 goals, namely Danny Hicks (RMSC Athletic) and Rob Kinsella
(AFC Victory).

SUNDAY 13th APRIL 2008
PLOUGH ONLY NEED TO
BEAT HARBY ON TUESDAY NIGHT TO SECURE THE TITLE
Plough Skellingthorpe now virtually have both
hands on the league title as they overhauled previous leaders Ivy Tavern
to take a five points lead with victories over AFC Maze and Cherry
Knights. With just two games left they can secure this rare title
victory on Tuesday night when they meet bottom side Harby. Ivy Tavern
CSA again sat the week-end out as they once again see silverware slip
from their grasps. AFC Victory, playing their fourth game in eight days
made easy work of the points at Fulbeck United to see them just about
secure third place. Fourth placed Heckington United scrapped home to
take all three points at Ruston Sports Reserves. RMSC ensured fifth
position as they overcame bottom side Harby while AFC Maze and
Metheringham played out a less than classic high scoring draw.
Plough FC
Skellingthorpe went top in mid-week with a 5-1 win as they concluded
their away programme at AFC Maze. It was their eleventh away win of the
season from 13 starts. Goals came from Dean Szendrey (2), Steve Elliott,
Luke Warley and Alex Mumby. Also in mid-week, AFC Victory played a
“warm-up” game, just two days before defending the David Cooper Cup.
They made easy work of beating RMSC Athletic 7-0 as the home side failed
to score for the third occasion in a row while conceding 15 goals. The
Vic’ shared the goals with Dayne Sayce getting three along with Stuart
Fox, Alan Merryweather, Rob Kinsella and a rare goal from Pete Noble. As
stated AFC Victory also had a cup final in mid-week when they met
Heckington United in the David Cooper Cup final, a trophy they picked up
last season in their first season in the league. Despite dominating play
the Vic’ went a goal down just before the break as Heckington defender
John Sabin netted. In the second half Victory continued to have the
better possession and levelled through a Rob Kinsella penalty. With time
running out they got the winner courtesy of an own goal in a crowded
goalmouth.
Back to
League action, Plough Skellingthorpe, having moved into top position
took on twelfth placed Cherry Knights as they looked to secure their
place at the top. They made short work of securing this in a 4-1 win
with two goals apiece from Jon Bell and Luke Warley. Cherry’s goal came
from Duncan Gray.
AFC Victory, playing on “auto-pilot”, visited Fulbeck United for a
fourth game in eight days and cruised to a 5-0 victory which meant the
home side had failed to score in seven of their ten home games.
Victory’s goals came from Alan Merryweather (2), Dayne Sayce (2) and Rob
Kinsella. Heckington United visited Ruston Sports Reserves in their
penultimate away game but their cup final had taken a lot out of them.
They went two goals up in the first half with headed goals from Damien
Brown and Michael Musson but in the second half they just hung on and
hung on as Rustons dominated play. Steve Rowell reduced the arrears but
the visitors managed to hold on to take the points. Just below
Heckington in the table, RMSC Athletic hosted bottom side Harby who were
playing their penultimate game. The home side had not scored in three
games but soon found their scoring boot as goals came from all quarters
with Sid Philips, Danny Hicks, Andy Mann, James Corby and a penalty from
Gavin Hughes seeing them hit five while Brumpton netted a consolation
goal for Harby. Finally second to bottom AFC Maze hosted tenth place
Metheringham in what proved to see ten goals scored. While this was a
goal feast it was by no means a “classic” as Maze took the lead through
a goalkeeping error allowing Gary Falkinder to net before Meg were
gifted a penalty on half time tucked away by James Young. Maze then went
4-1 up inside the opening ten minutes of the second half as the Meg
defence went missing. Maze in cruise control then saw their defence go
missing as Meg turned this around to 5-4 to them inside a further twenty
minutes. Then with the final kick of the match Maze snatched the
equaliser. The home goals came from Falkinder (2), Jamie Green, Ben
Walster and Derek Wylde while Meg’s goals came from Young (2), Andrew
Miles, Billy Fox and Pok Hin Cheung
